Armstrong Redwoods State Park - Scenic Coastal Rainforest

Enjoy a visit to this Sonoma County natural attraction and explore the world of towering Coast Redwood trees. Coast Redwood trees can grow up to 200 to 250 feet tall and live between 500 and 1,000 years. Admire these ancient wonders as you stroll under their shady branches, hike, picnic or go horseback riding. Designated a State Reserve in 1964, Armstrong Redwood State Park spans more than 805 acres boasts a visitors center, outdoor amphitheater, a variety of nature trails and picnic facilities.

Hiking, Horseback Riding & Guided Tours

This park is ideal for hiking, and features numerous trails that range from easy to strenuous. Horseback riding is allowed during summer months, and guided tours are available for groups with advance reservations only.

Restrictions & Recommended Clothing

Dogs are not allowed on any trails, and bicycles are allowed on service roads only. Stay on designated trails, and bring plenty of water and layered clothing. Temperatures can change dramatically in this coastal park.


  • What notable trees can be seen in Redwood State Park?

    You can see the Parson Jones Tree, the tallest tree in the park at 310 feet in height. Estimated to be 1400 years old, Colonel Armstrong Tree is the oldest. Visit the Icicle Tree to see unusual burl formations.
  • What facilities are available? What events can be held in the Armstrong Redwoods?

    The Armstrong Redwoods State Park has several different options that are excellent for casual gathering such as a reunion, picnic, or retreat, or something a bit more formal, such as a wedding. The picnic area includes grills, tables, restrooms all under the majestic redwood canopy. The area can be reserved for groups up to 150 people, except on holiday weekends. The same area can also be reserved for weddings and can accommodate up to 150 people and 40 vehicles. The park offers nine tables, large grills, restroom facilities, and is ADA compliant.
